Subject Activities

Reading is the critical element in learning English. Once students can discover the interest in reading, they can immerse themselves into the huge language world, which greatly helps develop their English.
我們深信持續閱讀是學習英語的關鍵,只要讓學生從閱讀英文書中找到樂趣,他們自然能從中提升英語能力,也能養成良好的閱讀習慣。

1.Storytelling (講故事時間)

In daily English lessons, we share different interesting stories in storytelling sessions. Through lively acting and the use of various teaching materials, we bring our students into the fascinating story world, which broadens students’ vocabulary bank and develops their reading interest.
在日常的英文課堂裏,我們加入了Storytelling環節 (講故事時間)。透過老師生動的演繹,並配合多元教材,我們帶同學進入一個個有趣的故事裏。在輕鬆愉快的氣氛中,同學們不但吸收到豐富的詞彙,而且漸漸培養出閱讀英文圖書的興趣。

2. Premier English Reading Scheme
英超閱(英文超級閱讀計劃)

Premier English Reading Scheme selects several book series that are exciting and interesting for our P.1-6 students. We help our students develop reading skills and provide guidance in their reading progress in reading gatherings. Students can enjoy reading the selected books with support from teachers and peers.
本校同學由一年級起即開始閱讀不同系列的英文圖書。我們採用「閱書會」形式,讓老師指導學生有技巧閱讀英文圖書,讓同學在朋輩的互相鼓勵、互相競爭中致增進英語能力的目的。

    3. Singapore Study Tour (新加坡遊學)

    In order to broaden students’ horizons and enable them to experience different foreign cultures, our school organizes a study tour to Singapore for our P.5 students every year. In the tour, students do not only visit an array of famous sightseeing spots such as the Garden by the Bay and the Night Safari, but also meet and interact with their Singapore buddies. It is an incredible and valuable experience for our students to use English as a communication tool beyond the classroom.

    為了擴展同學們的視野,讓他們有機會體驗不同國家的風土人情,學校每年會組織五年級學生去新加坡遊學。遊學過程中,同學們不僅能參觀一系列著名景點,如濱海灣花園、夜間野生動物園等,還能與新加坡的小夥伴深入交流。在這趟難忘、珍貴的旅途中,同學們實踐運用自己在課堂上學到的英文知識,真正將英文變為了一種溝通工具。

    After the study tour, students share their experiences with secondary school students in the form of group presentations, which strengthen their English writing skills and increase their confidence in speaking English.

    遊學歸來,同學們還會通過小組展示的方式,與中學的師哥師姐們分享旅程中的見聞,加強自己的英文寫作能力和自信。

    4.Read Write Inc Programme for P.1-3 students (拼音課程)

    The RWI programme uses a synthetic phonics approach to teach students 44 sounds (phonemes). Students can become familiarized with the phonemes within a short period of time. This builds a solid foundation for students and significantly improves their reading, writing, spelling and pronunciation.
    RWI課程是一套利用合成拼音教授44個音(音位)的教學法。在這套教學法下,學生可以在短期內掌握音位,為今後的閱讀、寫作、拼寫及發音打下堅實基礎。
    While learning the phonics sounds, they are also taught skills of blending and segmenting. The skill of blending is needed for students to be proficient readers. In the same way, segmentation is used to help students spell unfamiliar words.
    Through this programme, our students are encouraged to speak English in class with confidence and accurate pronunciation.
    This programme has special emphasis on using pair work while reading. Every student has the chance to work with a partner. Students are instructed and trained in the proper way to interact and praise their partners, which increases their participation in class. This gives children more opportunities to practise speaking and listening, greatly benefitting their interpersonal skills.
    在學習英文語音的過程中,學生們將學習如何拆分及組合不同音節。組合不同音節能提升學生的讀字能力,而將較長的詞彙拆分成不同音節又能提升學生的拼寫能力。在RWI課堂上,老師會鼓勵學生自信、準確地說英文。結對合作是RWI課程的另一個特色,所有學生都會有自己的拍檔,在交流過程中,學生們要學會如何恰當地與自己的拍檔交流并給予讚揚,從而增加學生們在課堂上的參與度,讓每個學生都有機會練習聽與說,增強與他人溝通的能力。

    Our students are exposed to different western cultures on Cultural Day.
